Under Water Fun

This one is an under water roundism work for a change. It was already a long time ago since I made one. That work being my graphite pencil drawing ‘Roundism – 19-07-16’ is one of the few. The first one was my initial oil ‘Wet Dream (2009) (sold)’ but that was in my early days going professional. Strangely I don’t know why that is. They are so much fun to make. Models are free floating and can take on almost every crazed pose you can think of. It always shows they are submerged and they are having a good time. Besides that, waves can be an integral part of forms surrounding beautiful female forms, almost caressing them. Makes me want to do more in the future. Who knows? After my last work ‘Hommage to a Dying Horse – 02-03-18 (sold)’ I needed to do a cheerful one anyway.

Weightlessness

The challenge was to create maximum flow but still maintain a recognizable female figure. Therefore I wanted no section crossing another in order to create a feel of weightlessness. I beefed up the tonality a little bit in order to get some more figuration. Moreover, I wanted to avoid the overall drawing would appear to be shallow. The bubbles and fingers were added in order to make the spectator believe the scenery and still be able to enjoy abstract body forms.

The Essence of my Storytelling

Such tricks touch the essence of my way of storytelling. The artistic realm I dwell in is semi figurative of nature. Perhaps I have told you before I believe in neither hyperrealism nor in sheer abstraction. Artistic evocation lies in between them because it has to tickle the eye first, then the mind. Tiny realistic bubbles therefore lure the beholder into my cubist world I would like to call my own personal implicite order.
